“In all things purely social, we can be as separate as five fingers and yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress,” W.E.B. DuBois once stated. But such is the mantra Mr. Cleo King stands by when it comes to serving the citizens of Bessemer.
Serving as Bessemer City Councilman within District 7 since 2010, Mr. King is honored to be amongst the upcoming election ballots for 2026, seeking reelection to continue needed progress within our city.
“My inspiration has always been the people, and I grew up understanding that leadership is not about titles, it’s about service. I’ve seen families working hard, seniors who deserve respect, young people who need opportunities and neighborhoods that need someone willing to stand up and fight for them,” King recently told us.
In addition to being a Bessemer Councilman, King has also served as Trustee for the Bessemer Public Library Board to help strengthen education, literacy and lifelong learning within our community.
His agenda is to help District Seven and the city of Bessemer be better than how he has found it by continuing road improvements, fighting blight and removing abandoned and unsafe properties, supporting the youth through education and mentorship, continuing communication outreach initiatives and more, as he believes leadership should produce results and not excuses.
“I want every resident to know that I work for you, not special interests or politics, but people. Whether you’re a child dreaming about your future, a parent working to provide for your family or a senior citizen who has helped build this city, your voice matters to me.”

We congratulate city spokesmen like Mr. King in their continued efforts and successes of encouragement and inspiration to many of us.
