City enters into agreement with Navigate Affordable Housing Partners

The Bessemer City Council has approved a resolution authorizing the City of Bessemer to enter into an agreement with Navigate Affordable Housing Partners, Inc. (NAHP). This agreement will assist in carrying out the city’s Emergency Housing Grant Program.

The approval of this resolution is an investment in neighborhoods throughout the City of Bessemer.

The Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 provides for the making of grants by the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to eligible local governments to assist in community development activities.

The Community Development Block Grant Program allows for public services pursuant to applicable federal regulations.

NAHP is a nonprofit corporation with experience in the housing industry and serves as a contractor and consultant to housing agencies.

For several years, NAHP has worked with Bessemer’s Community Development Department to provide assistance to senior citizens in need of home rehabilitation. Last year, nearly 50 elderly and disabled Bessemer residents received assistance.

Councilman Cleo King made a motion to approve the resolution. Councilman Teco Stephens seconded the motion.

The motion carried.
