How was your Resurrection Holiday weekend? Well, for residents of Bessemer, with everything from old school spiritual tent services, raffle winnings, and entertainment, we believe many would answer the aforementioned question as—A Blessing.

The Silver Boomers Group put on a spiritually-laden performance through scripture, songs, poems, and artistic plays dedicated to Our Lord and Savior. With a theme centered around John 8:34, the Kenneth E. Gulley Park and Recreation Staff’s tenth annual Easter program was a well-received celebration.

Linda Johnston rendered knowledge of the program through the occasion portion as Ms. Nina Campbell welcomed all. The Silver Boomers Choir shared songs with the audience such as “How Great Thou Art” and “Oh! The Blood”, followed by a movie praise dance from Dorothy Johnston.

The thought-provoking acting skit, “The Sin Chair,” revolved around a group of Park visitors (Silver Boomers Acting Ensemble) that came in contact with a homeless lady, a rude park visitor, and a woman of prayer, which climaxed with the sinners being allowed restoration of normal bodily movement once acknowledging their many sins.

Stirring and necessary, the 10th Annual Park and Rec Easter Program, featuring the Silver Boomers Group, left a lasting impression.

The walls and grounds of the Gulley Rec Center were full of holiday celebrations, as it concluded on Easter Day with the 13th Annual District 1 Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Councilman Cleo King. He said, “We were sort of anticipating a day full of rain but look at GOD, the sun’s allowed us to enjoy ourselves today.”

With bouncing houses (moonwalks), food trucks, prize winnings, and more, families enjoyed the day fully as kids scattered to find the Golden Eggs.

He added, “We wanted our community members to have a good experience in a safe environment where they could receive the benefit of TV/bicycle giveaways. Christ died for all of our sins, and we want to make sure we give Him all the Glory foremost.”

We pray all had a marvelous Easter celebration, as we want everyone to remember why we’re still here today and the amazing love God has shown us through Jesus Christ.

Let’s learn to enjoy ourselves and share love as that unselfish One showed us for all time and the rest of our lives.

“Allow Love To Conquer All and Resurrect the Better Parts of Humankind.”
