Bright Star is Tasting Table’s prime rib pick for the Southeast

The Bright Star in Bessemer is the Southeast pick on Tasting Table’s list of “Prime Rib Restaurants Worth a Special Trip in Every US Region,” published Oct. 16.

“The Bright Star opened in 1907, making it Alabama’s oldest family-owned restaurant,” the entry says. It names Greek-style steaks, Gulf Coast seafood and homestyle pies as the restaurant’s specialties.

Tasting Table lists nine degrees of doneness for the prime rib, along with five salad options, 10 side dishes and 11 add-ons such as lobster tail and oysters.

The restaurant received a James Beard Foundation America’s Classics award in 2010.

The Bright Star is at 304 19th St. N. in Bessemer.
