Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama receives $10,000 allocation

The Bessemer City Council recently approved a resolution authorizing the disbursement and payment of $10,000 from the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Budget to the Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama.

A written request from Luke Laney, executive director of the Community Action Agency, requesting disbursement of $10,000 from the city’s budgeted nonprofit allocation, was received by the Bessemer City Council.

The Community Action Agency provides programs and services designed to improve the quality of life for citizens through community assistance initiatives, support services, educational resources, housing assistance, family support programs and related public benefit services.

The city council determined that the programs and services provided by the Community Action Agency serve a valid public purpose by assisting vulnerable and underserved citizens of Bessemer. They promote community stability and advancing the health, welfare and general well-being of the public.

Councilman Cleo King made a motion to approve the resolution authorizing the disbursement. Councilman Teco Stephens seconded the motion. The motion carried.
