There have been several recent promotions within the Bessemer Police Department, including the promotion of Traffic Homicide Investigator Donald Lewis to the rank of detective.
Bessemer Police Chief Gary Carmichael made the promotion of Lewis official.
Originally from Birmingham, Lewis joined the department in 2016 as an officer. From 2021 to 2026, he served as a motor scout and traffic homicide investigator.
Det. Lewis said, “I want to thank the Bessemer Police Department and Police Chief Gary Carmichael for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Bessemer as a detective.”
Det. Lewis has been married to Jennifer Lewis for 16 years, and they have two children.
