The city of Hueytown proudly promotes itself as a “Small City with a Big Heart.” Along with that big heart is a welcoming spirit.
Hueytown Mayor Steve Ware and members of the Hueytown City Council are officially welcoming the public to the opening of the West Rock Mountain Nature Preserve in Hueytown.
Located at 250 Dee Hendrix Road, the inviting scenic mountain terrain is soon to become an outdoor recreation destination for hikers and biking.
Hueytown Mayor Steve Ware said, “West Rock Preserve is about more than trails. It is about creating a place where families can explore, exercise, return to nature and take pride in the beauty we have right here in Hueytown.” Ware added, “West Rock represents an investment in our community’s future and quality of life.”
There are more than six miles of hiking and biking trails in the nature preserve, including routes such as Tornado Alley, Gober’s Gorge, The Coal Chute, Hueytown “Hum” Dinger, Byron’s Pass, and Mountain Top Trail. Trail access includes the Dee Hendrix Trailhead.
A must-see for visitors is Ware’s Ridge, named in honor of Mayor Ware. It is a scenic ridgeline that overlooks portions of the trail system and surrounding mountain terrain.
Future plans will include horseback riding trails.
The city of Hueytown is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a later date.
