Pink and the month of October are synonymous with breast cancer awareness, but the battle is every month.

The seventh annual Her Fight Is Our Fight breast cancer walk and celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Kenneth Gulley Recreation Center in Bessemer. A $5 donation will be accepted.

Planning the fundraiser are Delores Byrd Smith, Benette Eason and Kim Croom.

“The public is welcome to join us for a day of celebration,” Smith said. “Most importantly, men are encouraged to attend.”

Those attending will hear guest speakers, have a chance at door prizes, learn some line dances and eat a little. Janet Ware of Sandusky, a 17-year breast cancer survivor, has made it her mission to help newly diagnosed patients through the process with resources and prayer.

Money raised will go to people facing breast cancer, for the resources their battle requires. The event was first held in 2020 at Martin Luther King Park in Hueytown.
