Bessemer Police Chief Gary Carmichael recently promoted Detective Chris Selman to the rank of detective sergeant.
A native of Bessemer, Selman has been with the Bessemer Police Department since 2019. In 2024, former Police Chief Mike Wood promoted him to detective.
“I want to thank Chief Carmichael for giving me this opportunity to serve the city as a detective sergeant of criminal investigations,” Selman said.
His duties as detective sergeant of criminal investigations include reviewing all criminal cases and assigning them to detectives for further investigation, supervising the team of detectives that investigates criminal cases in Bessemer, and day-to-day administrative duties. He is on call after hours if a major incident develops.
When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family. Selman always wanted to be a policeman; his father and uncle also served as police officers.
