Political newcomer Mykeshia Myles Jones defeated incumbent Ron Marshall for Assistant Tax Collector, Bessemer Division, Jefferson County in the Tuesday, June 16 Democrat runoff.
Bessemer resident Jones earned nearly 53% (3,914) of the vote to Marshall’s 47% (3,504). Voter turnout was only 10.53%

Jones said, “I appreciate the Bessemer Cutoff for believing in me and placing their trust in me. I promise to be very much engaging with and in the community.”
Her office in the Bessemer Courthouse will always be open, accountable and transparent. She will advocate on behalf of the citizens in the Cutoff and will educate them about the workings of the office of the assistant tax collector and that which works better for the community.
Jones was born and raised on the Northside of Bessemer.
Today, Jones is the founder and CEO of Nurturing Golden Hearts, a nonprofit. She is also city clerk for the city of Brighton.
She has been married to Charlie Jones for 18 years, and they have seven children.
