The Hueytown Senior Citizen Center is a welcoming place for all senior citizens. Open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Hueytown Senior Center is located at 2501 Brooklane Drive in Hueytown.

The Senior Center, opened in 2000 during the administration of Mayor Gerald Hicks, provides services and programs to meet the needs of older adults.

The Senior Center is a community center where seniors socialize, enjoy nutritious meals provided by United Way, go on quarterly field trips, play board games, read, play pool, dominoes, and enjoy bingo.

Among the services offered are assistance with technology, access to a weight and exercise room, educational programs, crafts, health screenings, counseling, and general support services.

Kailah Martin serves as the director of the Hueytown Senior Center.

For May, Rusty Smith, a licensed agent with GrayCare Benefits LLC, has volunteered to call bingo games for the seniors. He is also available to answer questions concerning Medicare, life insurance, and annuities. Each bingo game includes delicious prizes.

Attending the Senior Center last week were Charleen Glenn, John Host, Tina Jones, Leamon Hames, Bobbie Groce, Shirley Cummings, Gertrude Beavers, Vivian Conner, Ian Watkins, Jack Praytor, Rosetta Dunn-Oats, Lee Cummings, and Jacqvese Debose.
