How did you come to open an ice cream shop? David: I have always been in the hospitality industry, particularly food and beverage, and after 40 years in corporate America, I decided to leave the rat race. My daughter suggested – why not open an ice cream shop? It was not a scary transition. Ice cream was always an amusing part of my family history. Growing up, we enjoyed ice cream every night at 9 p.m.

What all do you serve? David: We serve hospitality, comfort and a feeling of home. We also serve 44 flavors of freshly made local ice cream.

Which ice cream flavors are the most popular? David: Of our 44 flavors, the most popular are Cookies n’ Cream, Krazy Kookie Dough, Salted Caramel Truffle, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Butter Pecan.

Are you a member of any service organizations? David: I am not a member, but I participate and support the Rotary, Kiwanis, a past president of the Hoover City School Foundation and support Aldridge Gardens.

What is your favorite meal? David: My wife’s marinated teriyaki flank steak prepared on the grill with home fries, asparagus and, for dessert, salted caramel ice cream on a brownie.

What gives you joy? David: My family, and as of several weeks ago, I became a grandfather to a beautiful baby girl, Reese Katherine Cohen, the first child of my son and his wife, Robbie and Jessi Cohen.

Tell me about your family? David: I was born in Miami in 1958. I have been happily married for 32 years to Sue Lyle Cohen, and we have two children, Robbie Cohen and Katie Cohen, and one grandchild.
