A chat with Morgan Murphy, candidate, for United States Senate

A Navy captain and Afghanistan veteran, Morgan Murphy of Birmingham is battle-tested. A man of integrity and service, he is a candidate for the United States Senate and the most experienced candidate in the race. A Trump and Tuberville veteran, he will be a leader.

Morgan is running to make sure the America First agenda lasts well into the 2030s and beyond.

The great pillars of his life — the Boy Scouts, the church, the U.S. Navy, and Birmingham-Southern College — have eroded, causing him to change his career and go to Washington D.C.

Morgan, 53, worked at the America First Policy Institute in D.C. for several years. A member of the Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Advent, he believes in America and America First.

Interview with Morgan Murphy

Tell me about Morgan Murphy?
Morgan: Some people say I am old-fashioned. I wear a tie to church. I like to tinker on old cars. I still address my elders as “Mrs., Dr., and Mr.” and so on. And perhaps my values are old-fashioned, too.

My dad was an Eagle Scout and taught me duty, honor, and country. I am very fortunate to have been reared here in Birmingham, where those values dominate our community. I want to see those values in the U.S. Senate, and I will honor the dignity of the institution and the people of Alabama that I represent.

Why are you seeking this office?
Morgan: To continue the good work of Senator Tommy Tuberville and President Donald Trump. President Trump has fixed so much of the wreckage left by the Obama-Biden years, but it will take more than 3.5 years to Make America Great Again.

I worked for President Trump in both his first and second terms and worked for Coach Tuberville between, so the people of Alabama can be confident that I believe in the America First agenda.

What is your campaign slogan?
Morgan: America First. Alabama Always.

Tell me about your family.
Morgan: I come from a large family — both my parents were born in Andalusia, and my three sisters and I grew up here in Birmingham. I am proud to be raising my young son, who is 11, just a mile from the house where I was raised.

What is your educational background?
Morgan: I am a proud graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, which I truly miss. I majored in English Literature on the Hilltop and began my career in journalism as the editor of the student newspaper.

I went on to earn my Master in Business Administration abroad and earned my advanced military education from the Naval War College.

What is your favorite meal?
Morgan: As the food critic for Southern Living, I ate just about everywhere in the South. One of my favorite spots in the WORLD is Niki’s West.

They have everything on that cafeteria line and I love it. I enjoy the Greek chicken, collard greens, fried green tomatoes, and banana pudding. I featured the Greek chicken and banana pudding in my book, Second Helpings.

What is your campaign message?
Morgan: Experience matters. That is why I say I am “Trump tested.” President Trump demands excellence. I have worked for him twice, for Coach Tuberville, and the America First Policy.

If you like their policies, you are going to like Senator Morgan Murphy’s policies. I will be grateful for your vote on May 19, 2026.
