The Great Hall at the Bessemer Civic Center was recently transformed into a glamorous Hollywood setting, complete with a red carpet.

The event was the annual Bessemer Public Library Foundation Gala, hosted by the members of the foundation. The theme of the black-tie evening was Lights, Camera, Action!

Chester W. Porter was chairman of the annual Gala, and Terry E. Dawson was co-chairman. Dorothy Davidson is president of the Bessemer Public Library Foundation.

The mistress of ceremonies was Dr. Cynthia Anthony, president, Lawson State Community College.

A Bessemer native and graduate of Jess Lanier High School, Sherre Davis-Hood was the guest speaker at the fundraising event. Sherre is a district manager for The Home Depot.

The delicious meal was catered by Mara Ruffin Blackmon, owner of Bistro 19th Restaurant in historic downtown Bessemer.

The evening was filled with great excitement, beautiful people, merriment, and an enthusiastic commitment to the Bessemer Public Library.
