“Am I going to be on TV?” our beloved matriarch exemplified, Bertha Scott, asked us during her recent birthday celebration.

With laughter all we could say is, “Maybe next time, Mama Scott, but surely we can get you in the paper,” as we laughed.

Recently grabbing hold of 93 years of life, she and Bessemer’s Rec Center Senior Leader Ms. Linda Vinson celebrated their milestone years through a birthday ceremony.

“‘Lord, please show me favor; let me at least make the promised 3 scores and 10 along with even more’ is what I’ve always prayed for. I can’t say it all, but I just want to thank everyone for being here,” Ms. Linda Vinson said as she broke out into a few tears, yet seen as joy through gratefulness of seeing 70 years of youth.

The Silver Boomers Group also serenaded her and Ms. Bertha Scott with Stevie Wonder’s rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Ms. Scott told the audience, “I may be slow, but I still get where I want to go. It’s just amazing to me, and I’m grateful to be 93 years old.”

Silver Boomers President Mr. Roy Brewster opened up the ceremony with a warm welcome, showing appreciation to the work and effort made in celebrating two women who mean so much to many.

Yana Wiggins shared words of encouragement through a beautiful prayer, while Eusebia ‘Cookie’ Sanderson spoke words of honor to Ms. Bertha as Ms. Amanda Maize spoke in regards to her cherished friendship with Ms. Vinson.

Words of what one means to another and how one loves such should be shared while one can hear in the flesh and not murmured or spoken only after they have passed on.

We celebrate Ms. Scott and Ms. Vinson for sharing their distinguished glows and examples of living fully.
