City enters into agreement with Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, LLC

It has been determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the public to relocate McCalla Road from the Norfolk Southern Railroad to Fourth Avenue, South. The area of interest is within the city of Bessemer.

Professional engineering services are required including surveys, environmental documentation, roadway design services, geotechnical engineering and right-of-way documentation.

Goodwyn Mills & Cawood presented a proposed agreement for professional engineering services to provide such services.

Their fee is $119,533.00 and such additional services as provided therein. The city of Bessemer is responsible for 20 percent of the total amount. The State of Alabama will contribute the remaining 80 percent.

At the September 2, 2025, meeting of the Bessemer City Council, the body was unanimous in approving the agreement and to authorize Mayor Kenneth Gulley to execute the agreement on behalf of the city of Bessemer.

Councilman Cleo King made a motion to approve the resolution concerning the agreement for engineering services. Councilwoman Sarah Person and Councilman Teco Stephens seconded the motion. The motion carried.
