“I wanted to step into independence while still serving the healthcare industry that I love,” is what phlebotomist Tiairra Thomas recently told us.
Working in healthcare for over eight years, Ms. Thomas is a certified phlebotomist, administrative medical assistant, and medical laboratory assistant with special training in EKGs that has set a foundation for her to start the mobile diagnostic testing service Veins In Motion.
Veins In Motion brings the lab directly to homes, offices or any facility with the purpose of making healthcare services more accessible and convenient for people who may be homebound or have transportation challenges and busy schedules. VIM’s mission is simply ‘Where the Blood Keeps Flowing’. Veins In Motion keeps things moving whether drawing labs or moving barriers out of people’s ways so they can receive care.
Ms. Thomas told us, “I’d like to see healthcare become more accessible and less intimidating. Too many people delay or avoid care because of transportation issues, personal fears and financial concerns. I make it a duty to share communal contributions by bringing healthcare services directly to people and making it comfortable, affordable and stress free. To hear clients say ‘You made this so much easier for me’ or ‘That was painless’ and ‘You got my veins on the first try’ is priceless. I’ve had clients tell me they haven’t had any lab work done in over a year simply because they can’t leave home, and those factors and shared conversations remind me constantly of why I started this business in the first place.”
We learned from Ms. Thomas, also, when it comes to health concerns no matter one’s age, the full spectrum is the consistency of eating well, staying active, drinking water and getting our lab work done on a regular basis, with the understanding that small consistent habits add up to big health results.
