New Artistic Creations is located in the Industrial Development Board’s Downtown Business Center on 19th Street in downtown Bessemer. New Artistic Creations was established in 1994 by the late Garry B. Stewart from Lubbock, Texas. The vision of the work, New Artistic Creations: “It’s all a Matter of Focus,” by author Janetta Stewart-Benefield is to spread the message of love and peace. Originally from El Paso, Texas, Janetta has lived in the Bessemer Cut- Off for 22 years. A retired cosmetologist, she is a member of the First Baptist Church Carver in Bessemer. She is passionate about the arts. She is a former military brat who is married to a retired U.S. Army Ranger. Janetta praises God everyday because he has protected her from dangers, seen and unseen. The art book is an interesting collection of the artist’s legacy and spiritual journey. Janetta continues her work of keeping the arts alive for generations to come.
What is your role as custodian?
Janetta: It has been my pleasure to continue honoring the legacy of my late brother, Garry B. Stewart. An artist, he resurrected an essence of primordial African folk/ritual art in his modern contemporary 3-D images. New Artistic Creations features the artist’s colorful, abstract artwork.
Do you have a favorite quote?
Janetta: My favorite quote is Psalm 23.
What is the vision of New Artistic Creations?
Janetta: I believe I was commissioned by God to share my work worldwide, promote peace, harmony and unity among all people.
Tell me about your family?
Janetta: I am the seventh of eight children of the late Joyce and Joe Stewart of El Paso, Texas. I have been happily married for 28 years to Arthur L. Benefield, and we have five children, six grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild.
What is your responsibility as owner?
Janetta: The Lord spoke to me to finish my brother’s work in 2024. I put it away for a season. I knew what he was talking about. My responsibility is to ensure his legacy for the future, but also to expand the brand of New Artistic Creations. His work is now in print form.
What meal do you enjoy most?
Janetta: I love Mexican food especially homemade enchiladas, quesadillas, Mexican rice, a garden salad and for dessert a slice of pound cake.
What is most meaningful to you in the publication?
Janetta: The paintings entitled Love, Peace and War and the Color Flower.
