Bessemer City Councilwoman Carla Jackson recently requested an appropriation and expenditure of $1,000 from her District 6 Discretionary Fund.
The requested funds are for the fundraising campaign benefitting the Pipe Shop Community Center, Inc., a non-profit public charity.
The community center is in need of improvements and renovations if they are to continue serving the citizens of Bessemer.
The Bessemer City Council determined that providing support to the community center project serves a public purpose, promotes public health and safety and the general welfare of the community.
Councilwoman Sarah Bell Person made a motion to approve the resolution for the expenditure of funds. Councilman Teco Stephens seconded the motion. The motion carried.
