New pastor appointed for First Methodist Church of Hueytown

Pastor Paul R. Wiegert

A lifelong Methodist, Pastor Paul R. Wiegert, formerly of Huntsville, has been appointed the new minister of First Methodist Church of Hueytown. His first day on the job was Sunday, July 5.

Nearly 100 worshippers welcomed the new pastor at the 10 a.m. service.

Pastor Wiegert said, “My wife and I are excited to start a new chapter in our lives here at First Methodist Church of Hueytown.”

Originally from Livermore, California, he has lived in Alabama for 22 years.

Committed to serving God and the community, Pastor Wiegert was attracted to First Methodist of Hueytown because it is an opportunity to grow the church that doesn’t look like who we are today, while keeping the traditions and core values of Methodism.

His approach will be to equip his membership to embrace the Great Commission.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Sociology from Azusa Pacific University in 1994 and is studying to become a certified ordained deacon in the Global Methodist Church in 2027 from Truit Seminary at Baylor University.

Pastor Wiegert, 54, has been married for 30 years to Kelly Wiegert, and they have three children and three grandchildren.
