Gearing up for the holiday season and summer itself, recently many local businesses and business owners treated citizens of Bessemer.
The second annual Bessemer Summerfest featured many such as Ms. Michelle Jackson and her famous Memonade (a delectable twist on traditional lemonade), mechanical bull riding, food trucks, bounce houses, live musical entertainment and DJs along with knowledgeable health and tax information.
We spoke to Ms. Jackson who told us, “This is great for our city, simple as that. We’re here to have a day set for our residents, and it’s a fitting family event where we gather to enjoy the day and celebrate the summer fun together.”
Held at Bessemer’s Watermark Place location (4500 Katie’s Way), the day was bustling with great energy, sunshine, laughter, fun and voices of joy and familiarity.
Also on hand were some of the upcoming Bessemer election candidates such as Mr. Geortez Jackson who is running for Bessemer’s School Board District Five. He told us, “We’re here celebrating with family and friends and spreading the word and raising awareness about the importance of voting. Don’t forget August 25th (to) come and cast your votes because I’m seeking to help Bessemer lay the blueprint of success.”
The Bessemer Summerfest’s coordinator Mr. Jay Johnson told us, “We hold this event once every year, and it’s truly all about the kids, so we try to get as many vendors and business owners together to see to it our kids have a place to engage in fun activities besides all the negative actions they sometimes get involved with.”
We celebrate the efforts of many of our very own Bessemer residents setting examples towards a greater tomorrow and inspiring many of us to follow the mantra – reach one, teach one.
