The Hoover Service Club is among the most active service organizations in Jefferson and Shelby Counties. The March meeting of the club, held recently at the Hoover Country Club, was a meaningful morning meeting of service and celebration.

Heather Pierce is president of the Hoover Service Club. Debbie Rutherford is publicity chairman.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the annual Flora Mae Pike Hoover Community Service Award. The award is given in honor of the founder of the Hoover Service Club, Flora Mae Pike. The club was organized in 1975. Many of the members and their guests wore red in honor of Mrs. Pike.

This year’s recipient is David Cohen, owner of The Whole Scoop on Brocks Gap Parkway in Hoover. David, a Hoover resident, is a longtime supporter of the city of Hoover. A hospitality professional, he loves Hoover and is committed to serving the entire community. David’s outstanding volunteer service is well-known.

Prior to enjoying a delicious lunch, the ladies participated in their Hands-On Acts of Service project by assembling 134 Easter baskets. The baskets were delivered to Oak Mountain Missions and Green Valley Food Bank for distribution. Cheers to Amy Russell, co-chairman of the Community Service Committee, and her committee members who planned the service project.

Seen in the crowd were: Heather Pierce, Amy Bell Russell, Lori Heglas, Winnie Cooper, Shelley Shaw, Rhonda Boyd, Joann Lewis, Betty Daigle, Bonnie Campbell, Roberta Atkinson, Becky Donnelly, Frances Brocato, Betty Moulton, Liz Elliot, Elaine Thompson, Jean Ingram, Lois Taylor, Deborah Weyandt, Marie Haggard, Mitzi Eaker, Susette Clark-Walker and Paula Campbell.
