The purpose of a seed library is simple: Sharing. Everything is all free for the taking.
Grand Opening Ceremony
On Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover. The public is invited to attend this special occasion marking the opening of the first Little Seed Library, which contains native wildflower seeds and garden seeds. Hoover Mayor Nick Derzis will perform the honors of cutting the ribbon.
A Girl Scout Silver Award Project
The seed library at Aldridge Gardens is a Silver Award project of Girl Scout Troop #26329. Having previously earned a bronze award, this dedicated service project in the community entitled the troop to receive their silver award.
The Team Behind the Project:
- Troop Leaders: Melissa Watts and Jamie Guess
- Girl Scout Cadets: Charlotte Guess, Charlotte Watts, Mary Alice Pitts, and Kinza Malik
Community Coordination
The project was coordinated by City of Hoover Recreation Manager Ryan Cavender, who praised the initiative:
“The Seed Library is a lovely addition to Aldridge Gardens and will enhance the Education Garden. The girls of Troop #26329 came to us with a very creative concept, and they went above and beyond in terms of craftsmanship and artistry.”
