An Alabama state prison officer has been arrested on drug and contraband charges.
Markia Sherie Smith, 27, of Pleasant Grove, is charged with possession of marijuana and first-degree promoting prison contraband.
Smith worked at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in western Jefferson County.
According to Alabama Department of Corrections officials, prison narcotics agents pursued an investigation on Smith for promoting prison contraband. A search of her home produced 134 grams of marijuana.
Smith was booked into Jefferson County Jail around 5:00 pm. Tuesday, March 24, and was released later that night after posting bonds totaling $20,000.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges could be filed.
