Family Resource Center distributes food boxes in Bessemer

At a recent meeting of the Bessemer City Council, it was approved authorizing the use of a parking lot for the distribution of food boxes to Bessemer area families at no charge.

The Jefferson County Family Resource Center requested permission for the use of a parking lot located at 2023 1st Avenue, North for the event.

A non-profit organization, the Resource Center is located in Birmingham and provides assessment and planning services for Jefferson County families.

The City Council has determined that by allowing the use of the lot has as its objective the promotion of the public health, safety, morals, security, prosperity, and the general welfare of the community.

Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley was authorized to take the necessary action to carry out the intent of the resolution and, if necessary, to alternate the distribution dates.

Councilman Cleo King made a motion to approve the item. Councilman Chester W. Porter seconded the motion.

The motion was approved.
