A perfect way to bring awareness to littering is to have a litter cleanup project. It has often been said that where there is litter, it invites more litter.

The McAdory—McCalla Community Volunteers group is having a litter cleanup event on Saturday, February 21 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event is in concert with Keep it Clean Jefferson County. Coordinating the cleanup effort are Janis Barksdale and Tiffany Wolfe, who call themselves two concerned citizens.

The volunteers will be meeting at a designated area in the Piggly Wiggly McCalla parking lot at 4750 Eastern Valley Road in McCalla. Safety vests, gloves, and bags will be provided. Remember to wear long pants.

Any student who is required to have community service hours is welcome to participate.

Sponsors of the project are Piggly Wiggly, Friends of Shade Creek, Jefferson County, Alabama PALS, and McAdory Fire Department.
