The City of Bessemer Parks and Recreation Department is committed to ensuring that the staff and volunteers working with youth possess the necessary skills and confidence to support youth development.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), with support from ESPN, Inc., has offered the city of Bessemer training through the Positive Coaching Alliance and a stipend in the amount of $2,500.00 to support the implementation of said training.
The city of Bessemer wants to participate in this program, which will provide up to 25 complimentary training seats for staff and volunteer coaches. All the training and reporting to be completed by July 31, 2026.
Councilwoman Donna Thigpen made a motion to approve the resolution authorizing Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley to enter into an agreement with NRPA. Councilman Teco Stephens seconded the motion.
The motion carried.
