The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is dedicated to honoring the patriot ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. Sacred to the memory.
This is achieved through the organization’s mission of promoting patriotism, serving communities, education, and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of America. It emphasizes reverence for the principles and ideals that guided the Founding Fathers.
The organization is also committed to marking the graves of the patriots who fought and died for the cause of independence.
Several weeks ago, the State of Alabama Legislature passed a joint resolution recognizing the important and significant work of the Alabama Society, Sons of the American Revolution (ALSSAR) and the Alabama Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (ASDAR).
The resolution was introduced by Senator Arthur Orr of Decatur. It is right and proper that the Alabama Legislature recognize these estimable organizations for their commitment and diligence to preserving American history.
The ALSSAR was established in 1890, and the ASDAR was established in 1894. Today, there are 13 ALSSAR chapters in Alabama and 71 ASDAR chapters in the state.
Each organization remains committed to the enduring ideals of American patriotism, education, and historic preservation.
The Resolution stated: “The Legislature of Alabama commend and honor the ALSSAR and the ASDAR for their outstanding service to the State of Alabama and the nation; applaud their enduring legacy of dedication to patriotic, educational and historical endeavors and extend our best wishes for their continued success.”
