It was in the 19th century when bingo, believed to have originated in Italy, was introduced in America, it quickly gained popularity. For whatever reason, bingo became associated with fundraising events in the 1930s, and it remains extremely popular today.

The ladies of the Service League are excited about their Bingo Night event planned for Saturday, February 21.

The fundraiser, which benefits the League’s annual high school seniors scholarship program, will be held at Woodward Golf Club in Bessemer. The doors open at 6 p.m.

Heather Lawley is president of the Service League. Planning the fun-filled event are Amanda Jewell and Merideth Colburn, and Brigitte Moore serves as vice-president and social media chairman.

Bob Sykes Bar B Q is donating the meal.
