Known as a “Small City with a Big Heart,” Hueytown possesses a strong sense of community and a welcoming spirit.

Hueytown Mayor Steve Ware and the members of the Hueytown City Council are excited about Hueytown soon to become the home of the West Rock Mountain Nature Preserve.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday, February 2, for the Nature Preserve. The area is located off Dee Hendrix Road in Hueytown.

A much anticipated project, the Preserve will open spring/summer of 2026. Once completed, the Preserve will offer exciting opportunities for hiking, exploration, biking, and a greater appreciation for the environment. Most importantly, the natural beauty of West Rock Mountain will be protected.

Hueytown Mayor Steve Ware stated, “This project has been a priority of mine because it directly invests in our community’s quality of life. The Preserve will give our residents and visitors a place to connect with nature, enjoy the outdoors and take pride in land that is truly unique in West Jefferson County.”

The project is part of the city’s broader commitment to community-focused development, conservation, and creating spaces that bring people together.

Ware continued, “Projects like this ensure we are building not just for today, but for future generations who will enjoy and care for this land.”
