Slow down and use caution when ice is on the road. It saves lives!
A Bessemer man was killed last Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in a morning crash resulting from hitting a patch of ice in the 1500 Block of Highway 150.
He was driving an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer when he lost control of the commercial vehicle, veered off the road, hit several trees, and then it caught fire.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Ashley William Jones, 46, of Bessemer.
When there is an accident involving 18-wheelers, traffic is often disrupted for a prolonged period of time.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Trooper’s Division is leading the investigation.
