Bessemer Police Dept. Keeps Children Warm This Winter

Detective J. Cunningham, Katrins Lyons, Makayla Buchanon, Ashley Buckelew and Sergeant Kendra Ward-Young

Tis the season to make a difference in the lives of children. The annual Christmas Coat Drive sponsored by the Bessemer Police Department was again successful.

These committed law enforcement officers were able to collect over 120 coats for local children.

Planning the event were Bessemer Police Chief Gary Carmichael, Sgt. Ward-Young, Detective J. Cunningham and Officer S. Gordon.

A heartwarming thank-you was given to Jennifer DeShazo, a retired Bessemer schoolteacher. The former J. S. Abrams teacher with 25-years of service, DeShazo, along with her family and friends, donated 58 coats to the Christmas Coat Drive.

The coats were distributed to the students at Hard Elementary, West Hills Elementary, Jonesboro Elementary, J. S. Abrams Elementary, Greenwood Elementary and Bessemer Middle School.

Congratulations to the Bessemer Police who embody the true spirit of the Christmas season.
