Gov. Ivey pardons two turkeys for Thanksgiving

During the season of Thanksgiving, Governor Kay Ivey, in all of her benevolence, has pardoned a pair of turkeys, Fil and Buster, at the 77th Annual Turkey Pardoning event.

The event was held on the front lawn of the Alabama Governor’s Mansion on South Perry Street.

Gov. Ivey stated, “Thanksgiving reminds us to be grateful for our faith, our families and the blessings of freedom we share as Americans.”

Bates Turkey Farm of Fort Deposit provided the turkeys.

Children from around the state submitted patriotic names for the turkeys. They were encouraged to select patriotic names in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

Attending the event were Becky Bates Sloane, Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries Commissioner Rick Pate, and Alabama Egg & Poultry Association CEO Johnny Adams.
