75 years of history is a lot to celebrate.

This significant milestone was observed recently by the Birmingham Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Planning the 75th Anniversary observance were Chairman E. T. Brown, Bill Clement, Bob Thomas, Jack Hood, Bobby Horton, Ben Mims, Preston Dixon and David Townsend.

The Birmingham Chapter is the oldest SAR chapter in the state and was established in December 1950. The first president was Stephen B. Wilkinson.

The diamond jubilee event was a testament to the commitment and determination of the chapter’s founding fathers and the membership.

The memorable event was held at the well-appointed Forest Park residence of E. T. and Caroline Brown.

The occasion, held on Sunday, October 19, was marked with a toast given by Jack Hood in honor of General George Washington with an English Stilton cheese and a Port wine. The Port was one of Washington’s favorite drinks.

The second toast, also given by Jack, was to the Declaration of Independence with a Madeira wine. After the signing of the Declaration in 1776, the Founding Fathers also toasted the historic occasion with Madeira.

Seen in the crowd were Jack and Pat Hood, Kevin Keith, E. T. and Caroline Brown, Dr. Paul Petznick, Willard McCall, Donald Jay Howton, Willard McCall, III, Judge Bill Pryor, Commissioner Greg Fanin, Sandy and Bill Carter, Morgan Murphy, Bill and Sally Daniel, Dr. Patrick Rowan, and Preston Dixon.

Then there were Alabama Society, Sons of the American Revolution State President Benny H. Hannah from Madison, John Love, Roger and Jean Vaughan, Ed and Jean Covington, Ginger and Jesse Thomas, Thomas Lyles, David Klementz, Tim Medders, Ramsey and Connie Reich, David Rowan, and William Ellison.
