The Bessemer Fire Department has made several more promotions, and recently Kenneth Thomas, 39, an apparatus operator, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

A dedicated firefighter, Thomas has served the Bessemer Fire Department for 11 years and is committed to keeping the citizens of Bessemer safe.

Thomas stated, “It is an honor to be promoted to the position of lieutenant, especially in a city that I love.”

The Warrior native works at Station Two, Hall Avenue, where his duties include serving as officer on engine two, B Shift; training; teaching continuing education in firefighting and EMS; and participating in community involvement.

His first priority is always to keep his men safe so they are able to go home to family at the end of a shift.

From an early age, Thomas always wanted to be a firefighter. His grandfather was a volunteer firefighter in Bagley, Alabama.
