It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving is less than a week away.

This is always the perfect start to the Christmas season.

The 78th Annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah will be held on Sunday, November 23, at 3 p.m. at Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover.

This grand event contributes significantly to the cultural life in the city, county, and state. The joyous occasion is enjoyed by young and old alike, and it is hosted by the Alabama Civic Chorale.

Bebe Clark Kok is the conductor of the Alabama Civic Chorale. Performing at the event will be members of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, professional soloists, and Walt Rogers, organist.

Featured soloists are Tammy Meacham, alto, Gloria Parvin, alto, Susan Williams, soprano, Peggy Brooks, soprano, Betty Wilson, soprano, David Tayloe, tenor and Chris O’Rear, baritone.

The public is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the less fortunate to this free event.

Founded as the Bessemer Civic Chorale by the late Earl and Frances Clark of Bessemer, the first performance was held in 1947.
