We saw the best in people last Saturday evening in Bessemer.
Bistro 19 Restaurant was the site for a fundraising event held last Saturday, November 8, for Jamaica Hurricane Relief.
Mara Ruffin Blackmon, owner of Bistro 19 Restaurant at 109 19th Street, North in downtown Bessemer, partnered with the Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization (CACAO) for the Jamaica Hurricane Relief event. A $25 donation was requested.
The entertainment was provided by DJ Trini Fresh.
Pauline Ford Caesar is founder of CACAO, the organization that planned the event. Gina Sealy is president of CACAO, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
“We are grateful to the local community for their generous response to this tragedy that has struck Jamaica,” stated Caesar, a native of Jamaica.
Among the items needed for shipping to Jamaica include personal care items, batteries, flashlights, canned goods, bottled water, gently used clothes, diapers, and Lysol products. They will be collecting items until November 22.
