Lt. Matthew O’Brien
Recently, the Bessemer Fire Department promoted Apparatus Operator Matthew O’Brien to the rank of lieutenant.
O’Brien, 42, is from Trussville and works out of Station Four Flint Hill.
He joined the Bessemer Fire Department in 2016 as a firefighter and later served as an apparatus operator.
“I am honored and humbled to have been given the opportunity and responsibility of being an officer in the Bessemer Fire Department,” stated O’Brien.
His duties include being in charge of Engine Four on the C Shift, responsible for his crew, training schedules, community participation and a proper response to emergencies.
All of the firemen at Station Four are EMTs, and three are paramedics who respond to medical calls.
He is married to Amy O’Brien, and they have three children. O’Brien is dedicated to training and simply loves his job.
