It was one of those grand days that will long be remembered.
The American Village Citizenship Trust in Montevallo recently hosted Governor Kay Ivey for the new Independence Hall ribbon-cutting event.
Col. Alan Miller is the president and CEO of American Village.
Independence Hall is a replica of the historic Philadelphia building.
Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Gov. Ivey and Col. Miller were American Village Trustee Dr. Geri Albright, American Village Board Chair Judge Keith Watkins, Dr. Cathy Randall American Village Deputy Board Chair Cam Ward and Alabama 250 Commission Vice-Chair and State Representative Kenneth Paschal.
Founder of the American Village Tom Walker had the idea to build Independence Hall at the American Village.
The landmark will serve as a new centerpiece for the American Village’s patriotic and civic education mission.
“Independence Hall is where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and adopted,” stated Miller. “By recreating this building here in Alabama, we are giving students and visitors a place to engage directly with the ideas that shaped our nation.”
The Independence Hall experience is central to the American Village’s mission of preparing people for citizenship.
American Village is the designated Semiquincentennial Celebration Capitol in Alabama, and Independence Hall will play a major role in that celebration.
