She enjoys her work. Janiece Gaines of Bessemer has served as the administrative assistant to Bessemer Fire Chief Kendric Hughley for three years. A kind disposition, she is a lifelong resident of Bessemer. Janiece’s pleasant personality along with her professional manner, contributes to the efficient managing of the Fire Chief’s office. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from the University of Montevallo in 2007. An attentive listener and one who offers thoughtful support, Janiece enjoys reading Christian growth books and romantic comedy books. Watching travel channels has created her interest in traveling, particularly to Australia, as well as touring and exploring other destinations. She is a good, sweet person.
What are your duties at the department? Janiece: It is my responsibility to keep Chief Hughley informed of all daily tasks, scheduled meetings, events and affairs. Along with my clerical duties, I also issue press releases.
What makes your work rewarding? Janiece: Every day the firemen make a point to stop by my office and share a kind word or tell a joke. It makes my day refreshing and rewarding.
Do you have a favorite quote? Janiece: It is better to give than to receive.
What have you learned in your position? Janiece: My job has strengthened my ability to communicate, listen and serve my follow employees.
What is your favorite meal? Janiece: I really enjoy lemon herb salmon served with mashed potatoes, asparagus and orzo and for dessert, my mother’s red velvet cake.
Tell me about your family? Janiece: I am the oldest of two children of Janice and Michael Gaines of Bessemer. I come from a small family.
What gives you joy? Janiece: What gives me joy is sharing in other people’s joy. I am always glad that everyone is having a good time and is at peace.
Do your have a favorite television show? Janiece: I really enjoy The Big Bang Theory.
How do you enjoy your spare time? Janiece: I enjoy listening to music, in particular, jazz, soul, pop, Christian and R&B and visiting with family and friends.
Where is your happy place? Janiece: Simply being at home.
