The Hoover Service Club’s first luncheon meeting and program for the New Year was captivating.
The charming Debbie Rutherford welcomed me to the meeting.
The well-heeled crowd filled the meeting room with laughter and applause.
The meeting was held at the Hoover Country Club on Thursday, September 11.
Heather Pierce is the new president of the Hoover Service Club.
A Southern cook and cookbook author, Danna Standridge of Standridge Farm in Hayden, was the guest speaker. Needless to say, she comes from a family of excellent family cooks.
This charming and delightful storyteller with a spatula in her hand, spoke on “Happiness is Homemade, Y’all.” Her warmth makes you feel like family before the vegetable soup is on the table.
Danna, a retired biology and English teacher, is the author of two cookbooks, Time to Eat, Y’all and Happiness is Homemade, Y’all and is a culinary teacher. Every dish comes with a story.
She recently appeared on the Celebrity Chef Stage at the 6th Annual Celebrate the Family Expo at the Finley Center.
The Service Club’s Community Service Project for September was Vineyard Family Services—Backpack Buddies. The members brought items for the backpacks or else made a cash donation to Vineyard Family Services.
State Representative, House District 47 Mike Shaw presented an education grant to the organization.
Following an entertaining and unforgettable program, the members enjoyed a delicious luncheon.
