Bessemer receives funding from District Paving Grant Program

Much obliged to Jefferson County Commission President Jimmie Stephens for selecting the city of Bessemer for partnership with the District Paving Grant Program.

Bessemer certainly qualifies for road improvement projects.

The city has been approved to participate in the program and receive funding in the amount of $308,336.34 from the District Paving Grant Program.

According to the terms of the agreement the Jefferson County Roads and Transportation Department will perform the paving work and the cost of services will be paid from district paving funds allocated to Commissioner Jimmie Stephens’ office.

The project is for the repaving of Greenwood Parkway, Overhill Road and Springdale Road.

Commissioner Stephens stated, “Whenever funding becomes available, I will continue to assist municipalities.”

Councilman Chester W. Porter made a motion to approve the resolution authorizing Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Jefferson County. Councilwoman Carla Jackson seconded the motion. The motion carried.
