“For over nine years Macedonia Baptist has collaborated with Abrams Elementary. Teachers are asked to create a wish list for their class, and such items are a conducive addition for academic and social suppor,t” said Bessemer’s District School Improvement Specialist, Ms. Remeka Little.

This past Monday Pastor William Scott and Macedonia church members made sure the wishes for our students came true as they delivered a plethora of school supplies to various classrooms.

“The initiative today, and always, is to see to it that our students in our city receive the absolute best. Whatever they need we see to it that they’ll receive such,” Pastor Scott told us.

Pastor Scott also stated, “The Macedonia church family would like to encourage the community to join us in fostering a love for learning.”

The students were in awe and filled with excitement as Pastor Scott and Mr. John delivered the items, while teachers Miss Huff and Miss Atkins made it a moment to show and explain to the students the purpose and benefit of them receiving the supplies.

Ms. Monika Huff told us, “Basically the items we’ve chosen this year were items we don’t necessarily have as part of our traditional student supply list. But, these items are used to enhance our student centers and give our students more within the classroom. We’re simply blessed to be chosen to receive such items each year through the Macedonia church family.”

Ms. Kathryn Atkins continued, stating, “For many years Macedonia has been great supporters of us and our students. Every year they ensure we receive any and everything we ask for, from paper items that help laminating and tracing easier, to treats the kids love. We’re simply grateful.”

The Macedonia Baptist Church family also provides meals for the Bessemer City High School’s football team as well as providing Angel Tree gifts for students throughout the Bessemer School District during holiday seasons.

Ms. Remeka Little also told us, “We’re proud to be the ‘Extra’ impact on learning at Abrams Elementary. Simply reading twenty minutes a night can improve our student’s varied successes in and out of our classrooms. These items which may include ink cartridges, reading and math small group kits adds incentives for positive behavior.”

We thank Pastor Scott and the Macedonia church family for their collaboration with Ms. Little and the Abrams school staff for ensuring a brighter future for our kids by standing by their word and seeing to it all wishes come true.
