Men’s Empowerment meeting held at Pleasant Hill Church

The Men’s Empowerment Group meeting was recently held at Pleasant Hill Church in Bessemer, coordinated by Evangelist Roz.

The topic was “A father’s role in parenting.” The program usually starts off with a prayer, but this day, since graced by new faces, the meeting started off by some introducing themselves. Duck Hayes did a fabulous job sharing his fatherhood experiences as a father plus insisting adamantly that the young fathers present work hard not to be like his Dad who was a biological father but not a good dad. The meeting continued by others introducing themselves and telling what they do for a living, if not retired. Then Evangelist Margaret Ware gave a heartfelt prayer. Evangelist Roz read the Scripture, Mark 12:31 (The Great Commandment).

Everyone stood to recite the Mission in unison. Next the youngest male Jmo read the Goal out loud from an index card. The Purpose of the Men’s Group was read by Evangelist Roz. The platform of male speakers began with Jmo, a young 33 year old man sharing his life journey to include the loss of his beloved mom. He said this devastated him and left him blindsided and led him to making bad choices and adopting defense mechanisms to try to ease the pain of grieving the loss of a mom that only a child knows.

At the conclusion of his emotional speech, Evangelist Margaret was called on to lead the group in an encouraging prayer with everyone holding hands in a circle.

Rev, Henderson, the Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church off 4th Ave behind 4th Ave Grocery Store, ended the meeting with his take on “A father’s role in parenting.”
